The Carl Williams Memorial Scholarship was started after my reign as Miss Rodeo New Mexico. After completing my reign I knew that something was needed to help make the Miss Rodeo New Mexico Pageant more appealing and helpful to the girls who ran for this title. Therefore, I started the scholarship in memory of a dear friend of mine.

Carl Williams was born and raised in Clovis, New Mexico and lived his many years of life there in Clovis. Carl was a well known farmer and cattleman in the Clovis area. Carl was a member of the Curry County Mounted Patrol, Elks Lodge along with many more organizations. Carl was a man that would give you the shirt off the back if you were in need of it, he was a man with a big heart, and was known for his years of hard work. Carl was very well respected in the area and everyone that knew him was privileged to call him friend. Carl was a man whose values and beliefs were those that hold true to the western heritage that we try so hard to preserve.

Carl passed away during the middle of my reign and it was a huge loss for me as well as for others. So it was only natural that the scholarship be named in his honor. I know that Carl would have wanted me to win the Miss Rodeo America title, but I know that he was proud of me every step of the way during my reign and during the Miss Rodeo America Pageant. I know that he was watching over me all the time and to this very day.

Carl is deeply missed not only by me but by others. I would also like to thank Carl’s family especially his son, Tommy Carl Williams, for the opportunity to do this scholarship in his honor. I hope this little bit has given you an insight to the man who left a lasting memory in my life and who I miss greatly and I was proud to call my friend.

Thank You!

Thank you to Red and Cindy Wilk of Huron, SD for their most generous contribution to the MRNM Scholarship.
